Apostille Facilitator
An Apostille (uh-pos-TEE) is a specialized certificate, issued by one of 50 U.S. Secretaries of State, that authenticates a document for official use in any foreign country that is a member of the Hague Convention. This certificate is attached to your original document to verify the legitimacy of the notary's signature and seal, a critical step prior to its final processing.
For documents intended for use in countries that are not members of the Hague Convention, a more complex authentication or certification process is required. This typically involves the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., and potentially the respective foreign embassy or consulate.
You may need an apostille for various international endeavors, including:
-
Pursuing employment overseas
-
Finalizing an international adoption
-
Executing a Power of Attorney for use abroad
-
Establishing a business entity in another country
-
Preparing for a destination wedding (e.g., a Single Status Affidavit)
What to Expect: Process and Timing
The authentication process involves several steps and the timeframe can vary. While we always strive for efficiency, please be advised that completion can take several business days depending on the specific requirements for your document and destination country.
If your destination country is a member of the Hague Convention, the process is typically streamlined to a single step: obtaining the apostille itself. As a general guideline, please allow for a processing period of up to seven (7) business days, not including shipping time.
NOTE: Expedited courier services can reduce the processing time for apostilles going to Hague-member countries.
An Important Note on Non-Hague Convention Countries
For non-member countries, the process involves additional certifications, which will extend the timeline. Our office is committed to managing every case with efficiency and diligence to ensure your documents are processed as promptly as possible. NOTE: Processing times for Authentications going to non-Hague countries can take from 4-6 weeks in most general cases.
